I absolutely loved loved reading this book! So, one of the best romantic comedy books I have ever read, I sat engrossed throughout, and was left wanting to reread this story again right after!
It had me gasping because I was laughing so hard with tears flowing freely from my eyes. This is one book that not only made me laugh hard but also cry buckets of tears too. Such a memorable read, read this book now!
Things I Liked:
A strong Heroine:
Lara’s character is so relatable. She has a soft heart, and a trusting nature. Often taken advantage of because of this trusting nature, she is a talented woman still trying to find her footing as an adult. I felt so angry, frustrated, helpless, and lost on her behalf. Lara’s true love has dumped her in a message. Her parents don’t understand her. Plus her sister is always demeaning her. Then her best friend turned business partner has convinced her to invest everything in the business, and now promptly left everything for a vacation in Goa. So, in all her life is chaotic, and she is floundering.
The victory of the underdog:
I always love Sophie Kinsella’s heroine who aren’t perfect. They are often naive, soft hearted, and good people who get duped by people they trust. But the one thing they have in loads is determination, goodness, and a strength of character that stops them from doing wrong. So, despite all the setbacks, disappointments, and failures, they fight and ultimately the “underdog” wins! Thus, Sophie Kinsella proves again and again that even when everything seems lost, goodness and truth always prevails.
I rejoiced the growth of the heroine’s character:
Lara’s heartbreak, confusion, hurt, and lack of confidence in herself all struck a cord with me. Haven’t we all felt down like her? And then I rejoiced when she fought against all odds to get everything she wanted in life. Her transformation from a meek, depressed, heartbroken, and insecure woman to a strong, confident, vocal, and secure woman was the highlight of this book.
Then how her connection with her family grows deeper, and more meaningful had me going teary eyed. So, I applaud the author in how she brought relatable issues we all face with our families so beautifully to the fore. And then also showed that every family has problems but still our family are our best supporters and also a part of us.
Lara went from thinking like this about family
to thinking this:
"It’s easy to discount family. It’s easy to take them for granted. But your family is your history. Your family is part of who you are."- #BookQuote Twenties Girl by @KinsellaSophie #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #RomCom #NjkinnyRecommends Share on XI totally agree with this quote. Home is our safe haven with no nowhere better than home.
"If your life's at a juncture and you need to think about things, there's nowhere better than home." – #BookQuote Twenties Girl by @KinsellaSophie #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #RomCom #NjkinnyRecommends Share on XThis quote also struck a cord with me. Sometimes there isn’t a good side to people. So, it’s okay to stop making excuses for them.
"Your father always tries to see the good side of people; to find the excuse. But sometimes there isn't a good side. There isn't an excuse."- #BookQuote Twenties Girl by @KinsellaSophie #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #RomCom… Share on XThe resident ghost:
I absolutely adored great aunt Sadie. She is a rebel, a woman who lives each moment without regrets, and one who braved so many heartbreaking events in her life to still retain her innocence and fun loving spirit. So, her antics had me laughing so hard tears ran down my face!
Sadie’s advice to Lara is so true for each of us:
"when things go wrong in life, this is what you do. You lift your chin, put on a ravishing smile, mix yourself a little cocktail… and out you go.”- – #BookQuote Twenties Girl by @KinsellaSophie #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #RomCom… Share on XThe beautiful journey of the relationship growth between Sadie and Lara had me sighing in delight. And then I cried so hard when the end came. It also made me wish I had a chance to reconnect with my grandmother again. I would happily take even an hour with her again!
Sadie’s advice to Lara about living each moment is something we all should take to heart and follow:
"Life is like an escalator. You see, it carries you on regardless. And you might as well enjoy the view and seize every opportunity while you're passing. Otherwise, it'll be too late.”- #BookQuote Twenties Girl by @KinsellaSophie… Share on XI also adored the many life lessons I got from this book:
Life Lesson 1: Embrace your life.
"Life takes us on different paths… It's not up to us to evaluate or judge them, merely respect and embrace them."- #BookQuote Twenties Girl by @KinsellaSophie #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #RomCom #NjkinnyRecommends Share on XLife Lesson 2 and Love Lesson 1: A one sided love goes nowhere
"It's not enough to believe! You could spend your whole life hoping and believing! If a love affair is one-sided, then it's only ever a question, never an answer. You can't live your life waiting for an answer.”- #BookQuote Twenties Girl… Share on XLife Lesson 3: Don’t dwell on the past.
"It's just the way things are. And you can't dwell on what might have been. You have to look at what is.”- #BookQuote Twenties Girl by @KinsellaSophie #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #RomCom #NjkinnyRecommends Share on XLove Lesson 2: Don’t trail after a boy when a love affair is dead.
"The worst thing a girl can do is trail after a boy when a love affair is dead." – #BookQuote Twenties Girl by @KinsellaSophie #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #RomCom #NjkinnyRecommends Share on XLife Lesson 4: Don’t waste time on something that turns to be nothing.
"I know what it's like to squander all your hours and all your tears and all your heart on something which turns out to be nothing. Don't waste your time.”- #BookQuote Twenties Girl by @KinsellaSophie #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #RomCom… Share on XExcellent World Building:
The expertly done contrast between a twenties girl and a twenty first century girl will have you realistically transported to a bygone age which was happier, more happening, and sometimes even more modern than our present times. So, I sat engrossed throughout and wanted to go relive that time myself.
Also every scene, every detail, every emotion is so well-researched, and realistic that you feel part of everything.
Loved the hero:
I also adored the hero. The perfect man who supports his woman without taking over, he is everything swoon worthy and best. No wonder even the ghost liked him!
Magnificent Romantic angles:
The romance, though a secondary part of the story, is so beautifully developed. Sophie Kinsella brings an important moral to the readers. She shows that true love is never forced, it just happens, and when it does time and distance make no difference.
Also there are two love stories in this book, and while both are poles apart and yet so heartwarmingly memorable.
This romantic short excerpt from a conversation between the hero and the heroine has my heart:
Nail biting suspense and mystery:
Then the suspense and mystery of the necklace had me sitting up in excitement, and curiosity. An edge of the seat mystery that had me in its grip all through, I absolutely loved the execution of this angle.
Conclusion:
All in all, Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella is one of a kind book that is a definite must read. A not-to-be-missed rom-com that everyone should read, Njkinny recommends this stunning book. I felt energised, happier, and more cognizant of the beauty of my life after reading this book that teaches us so much about family, love, and relationships.
Read it especially if you want a story that will make you laugh, cry, swoon, and exercise your brain cells. So, 5 out of 5 super shiny stars to this spellbinding book that will be read and reread multiple times once you read it once.
So, go read it now and gift it to your loved ones!
The final moral of the story that we should all heed.
