To tell the truth, after initially liking Travis, I hated him in “Archer’s Voice“. So, when I heard that his story was here, at first, I wasn’t very keen to read this book. But once I started, I was sucked in and sat engrossed throughout!

Mia Sheridan shines and shows her writing prowess in this book. She took a hated character, and gave him a voice that forced readers to change their perception of him. So, by the end of this book I had cried buckets of tears, and started praying for a happy ending for this tortured character that had gone from being a villain to being a hero for me!

This book starts a few years after the ending of “Archer’s Voice“. Travis Hale is now the chief of police, and a man repentant of his past actions. And while he has mended fences with his brother, he still feels guilty about his role in making Archer’s life difficult in the past.
This quote had me shedding so many tears. Travis’ confusion, helplessness, and yearning to be better but fearing the long memories of people is so relatable.
How do you know what to change, and what to hold on to?” I asked. Were there parts of me that were good and valuable, or did I scrap it all and start completely from scratch? And if that was the case, how in the hell did one go about doing that? Especially in a small town where stories became legend, and every buried secret eventually rose to the surface?”

I loved Haven. She is a plant lover and being a plant lover myself, I connected with her. Then her protectiveness towards her younger brother again struck a cord with me. Her interactions with Travis are fun, witty, and oh so memorable. They are both people battling past demons, and trying to become better. So, strong characters who have made mistakes in the past, these are people you will relate to.

We get to reinvent ourselves. And if the new version is even better, it means we’ve learned and we’ve grown.”

Supporting characters:
I also adored meeting Archer, Bree, and their children in this book. It was like meeting friends after a long time, and I was left smiling with tears in my eyes as I read about their happiness together. They so deserve all the happiness after the challenges, and soul crushing incidents in their past.
Then I also liked Haven’s brother, Easton and want to see his story too. And Gage’s story too.
We also get to see the past villains, and it was so satisfying seeing them pulled down a notch.
And the best part came when Travis bared his soul, and made a memorable attempt at redeeming himself. You are so redeemed Travis!
I wanted this woman to know me. But with the realization came fear, because if she truly knew me, if she knew all the things I’d said and done, not as a child, not as a teenager, but as an adult who should have known and done better, she’d turn away in disgust. And why shouldn’t she?”

The world building is splendidly done. I could easily visualise the small town settings with its mesmerising beauty that had me itching to go vacation there. Also this is a place where everyone knows everyone. So, the residents share a history together, and now they are split between wanting change and fearing it too!
Heavenly. The crystal-clear water, the soft sound of gently lapping waves, the fragrant pines, air so fresh you could drink it, and all that quiet. It spoke to my spirit in the same way caring for living things did.”

This scene had me sobbing and so emotional!
Bree sat down and Averie, her solemn eyes on my face, reached her arms out to me, as though she’d just recognized something different about me that she could trust. Conclusion:
All in all, what a sequel to “Archer’s Voice”! I absolutely must applaud the author on redeeming a hated character from Archers’s story, Travis and making him a beloved one!
Splendidly done, this romance is a must read and one of my best reads of 2021!
So, if you love characters that have always felt like “second best”, made mistakes, and are now on a path of absolution then this book is for you. Right from endearing characters, mesmerising settings that would have you itching to go vacation there, and a romance that had me sniffling, sighing, and falling in love with love again, this book has everything to entertain you.
