The Jewel Robbery At The Grand Metropolitan by Agatha Christie Summary:
Poirot and Hastings are on Holiday when a wealthy woman’s expensive pearl necklace is stolen and he is called in to investigate. Will Poirot be able to solve this ingenious theft and retrieve the jewel?
This was only the second of Agatha Christie’s short stories to appear in print. In the UK, it appeared in The Sketch magazine on the 14th March 1923 as The Curious Disappearance of the Opalsen Pearls and in the US it appeared in October 1923 as Mrs Opalsen’s Pearls.
The story was first published as a book in the collection Poirot Investigates, 1924, by Bodley Head.
The Jewel Robbery At The Grand Metropolitan by Agatha Christie Book Review:
A quick and short read, this classic Hercule Poirot mystery is just as mind boggling as a full fledged mystery novel. A rich woman’s pearl necklace gets stolen from a room with only way out and from right under the maid’s nose. No one left the room and no one came in, then how did the necklace disappear? And where is it now?
Ever since his first appearance in “The Mysterious Affair at Styles“, the Belgian Detective, Hercule Poirot with his “little grey cells” has managed to win over readers’ hearts all over the world spanning generations!
With only 12 pages it is a feat that Agatha Christie manages to wow a reader with the ingenious execution of the crime that seems so straightforward at one time but is anything but!
This is a clever mystery that is short enough to be read between breaks and yet entertaining enough to give you the high you get from reading an Agatha Christie mystery. Poirot is his usual fabulous yet somewhat unconsciously arrogant self and Hastings is endearingly clueless throughout!
The crime is ingenious and I love reading about how it was done.
So, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this clever short mystery that is perfect read for a short break. 4 out of 5 stars to it from me and Njkinny recommends it to all mystery and short story lovers.
