Relic by Douglas Misquita Book Review:

I discovered Douglas Misquita’s high octane action-adventure thrillers a few years back and ever since have enjoyed all his books. And this new book is no exception.

This time Author Douglas Misquita takes readers to the land of beautiful beaches, Croatia. Our hero is on a backpacking trip where danger finds him.

Things I liked:

Intriguing Book Title and Blurb:

The first impressions are created by the trio of book cover, book title, and book blurb. And Douglas Misquita scores on the title and blurb front. The book title “Relic” instantly arouses interest which is further sealed by the intriguing blurb that promises danger, thrill of the chase, a treasure hunt, and playing the hero to save a damsel in distress while globetrotting across countries and continents.

Plot, Narration, and Research:

Douglas Misquita’s books are always deeply researched with intricately thought out plot lines, and crisp narration that keeps you engrossed. So, my expectations with this book were sky high. And I am so happy to say that they were well met!

Relic offers a multi-layered plot that incorporates geopolitical situations, mystical and supernatural mystery, historical elements to add more spice, and a main story line that wages war between good and evil.

The narration is tight and engaging. While the language is suited for readers of all types both novice and seasoned, the immersive quality is top notch. So, you are sucked in right from the first page, and held captive until the very end.

The author has done extensive research on historical, current, and supernatural topics related to the places where the story unfolds. And this shows as you read the book. Nothing is unreal or artificial. Everything feels possible, and you are able to visualise and connect with each scenario and twist.

Characterisation:

Another strong point of Douglas Misquita’s stories is his complex, and relatable characters. Both main and supporting characters are people we can connect with. They are people who aren’t perfect and yet doing their best to stay true to their nature.

While his heroes may, at times, seem larger than life but still you want to follow them because they are people who fighting the eternal fight between good and evil. Here, too, Izak starts out as a normal person enjoying his holiday. But when the time comes to step up, he is the hero we all crave to see. He is brave, fearless, and a protector.

I stayed with the characters and each one played his or her part to perfection. And now I am eagerly awaiting for the next part to see how these people evolve.

Things that could be better:

While I absolutely enjoyed this book, so much so that it earned a place in my list of the Top Books Releases of 2023 that Njkinny Recommends, I still found two areas that could be worked on.

First is the book cover. While it becomes interesting after you have read the story, at first glance it isn’t catchy enough to make readers stop to take notice.

Second is the length of the book. At several junctures I felt that the book could be shortened to make it clean-cut and engaging.

Conclusion:

Buckle up for an adrenaline-packed ride in 'Relic' by Douglas Misquita! Join Izak on a thrilling adventure through Croatia as he navigates danger, intrigue, and ancient mysteries. #BookReview #IARTG #NjkinnyRecommends Share on X

All in all, Relic by Douglas Misquita is a nail biting, edge-of-your-seat action thriller that will take you on a memorable heart pounding journey. With a story that effortlessly incorporates drama, action, adventure, thrill, mystique, and a virtual tour of scenic locations, this book is perfect to take you on a high stakes adventure where it’s a game of life and death.

So, 4.5 out of 5 stars to this must read Action-Adventure Thriller from India’s only action thriller writer. And Njkinny recommends this thrilling and suspenseful read set in stunning locales to all “Jack Reacher” fans.
