I read Alisha Kay’s debut novel, “The Maharaja’s Fake Fiancee” and loved it! So when I heard that the next part featuring the endearing characters from the previous book was coming out, I jumped to read it as soon as it released!
We met Aryan and Jessie in the previous book so if you have read the first book in the “Devgarh Royals’ series then they are already known to you. However if you haven’t then it’s still okay because despite being part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone.
Both books, “The Maharaja’s Fake Fiancee” and this one almost run together. We get glimpses of the previous story overlapping with Aryan and Jessie’s drama at several places, and it was so fun to watch the love story with a known outcome from a different angle.
I loved Aryan and Jessie, and enjoyed their banter.
They are star crossed lovers filled with insecurity, yearning for each other, blind prejudices, and misunderstandings. So, many of us with relate to their dilemmas, and struggles. I got misty eyed so many times. Both the protagonists are misunderstood, and confused about their feelings for the other person. And with society pressure, doubts, and long forced class divide standing between their happily-ever-after it is an uphill battle for these love birds.
I could hardly tell her that the right man had been here all along, but he was all wrong because he simply didn’t see me.”
Princess and Prejudice by Alisha Kay Book Quote
The romance is passionate, and combustible. They made love to each other, professed their feelings, and then the next moment were fighting again. While this was entertaining in the beginning, soon it got repetitive, and I prayed for a change in their attitudes. But despite this, I sat engrossed throughout, and laughed at the witty scenarios that are so realistic that you will be nodding your head in support every time!
It was blissful watching Veer and Nivy so in love after the turmoil they faced in the previous book. And Nivy’s try at matchmaking is hilarious, and totally goofy. So, it had me chuckling happily as I excitedly turned the pages.
Then, there are many scenes that held my heart captive, and I adored the emotions they invoked.
A scene that had me sighing in pure bliss!
Things that could be better:
I missed Rani Maa’s perspective to Aryan and Jessie’s relationship. She doesn’t play as prominent a role as she did in Veer’s story and that was a letdown for me. I love her character and wanted more banter and active participation from her side. The same goes for Aryan’s mother who is the typical social climber, and her actions had added a certain delicious challenge to the previous book but in this one she is unfortunately in the background. I would have loved to see her machinations again in full force.
Then the exes angle was promising, and I kept waiting for an explosive development but sadly this angle fizzled out. Neither Deep nor Arshia proved to be worthy adversaries, and could not add an entertainment depth to this story.
While I enjoyed this book- it is light, breezy, and fun, I still felt that it lacked a depth that the plot and Alisha’s writing talent had the potential to provide. The protagonists spent majority of the book clashing, and at one point it all felt like they were going in circles. Then suddenly, everything was resolved and the end came. I wanted more development to their enlightenment, and agreement to go forward together.
However, we meet Yash, and I am so eager to read his story now.
Conclusion:
All in all, Princess & Prejudice by Alisha Kay is a light, enjoyable, and heartfelt romance that will strike a cord with everyone. A story of taking a chance on love, and being brave to face life’s challenges, this book will relax you, entertain you, and then leave you with a goofy smile on your face. If stories with strong independent protagonists, realistic settings, and heartwarming love is your catnip then you will enjoy this contemporary romance. So, 4 out of 5 stars to it and Njkinny recommends this passionate romantic comedy to all romance lovers above the age of eighteen.
I am so eagerly awaiting the next Alisha Kay book now. Go read this book and gift it to your friends!
