Pentias – Master of the Elemental Jewels by Karthika Sajeev Book Review:
Things I liked:
Pentias – Master of the Elemental Jewels by Karthika Sajeev is the second book in the “Pentias” series. But it can be read as a standalone.
I read this book before reading the previous book “Pentias – The True Bond“, and found no loss of interest. However, it is always recommended to read a book series in order.
Plot and world building:
This is my first book by author Karthika Sajeev and so, I went in blind when I started. But soon I was smiling, and feeling affected by the story. The plot is straightforward, and simple enough that it will engage young readers.
Then the world building is also descriptive, and I could visualize the settings, and people in my mind’s eye easily. With magical realism vibes of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone“, I enjoyed visiting the magical world of Silandria.
Narration:
The writing is fluid, and will be easily understand by children as well as adults. Then the pace of the story is moderate, and it manages to keep the interest of the reader throughout.
Characters:
Five friends, Aahan, Aarav, Dhyan, Farhan, and Harshi, bound by bonds of true friendship, they reminded me of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five gang. These are children willing to face danger, take risks, and support their friends no matter the situation which is so endearing. And will prove a lesson to all young readers of this book.
So, if you want to know how the Pentias met and became friends plus experience their first adventure together then read “Pentias – The True Bond“.
Then I also enjoyed meeting the residents of Silandria. Mother Alaysia who is so unlike the image her name invokes in our minds, and Aahan-Aarav’s parents’ characters especially were done well. I loved the contrast of Mr. Mathur’s and his wife’s characters in Silandria and in the normal world. How they adjusted to safeguard their loved ones is so effectively portrayed here.
Then the loyalty among friends, servants to their masters, parents to their children, and a King-Queen’s towards their subjects is so beautifully brought to the fore in this book. The sacrifices, love, and enduring faith portrayed by the characters is another highlight of this story.
Things that could be better:
The first thing that jumped out was that there is too much telling, and not enough showing in this book. So much of the story is told, and I wanted to see it through scenes, and interactions.
Then there are several grammatical mistakes, and the unnecessary usage of words like “even” will be felt by veteran readers. However, the language is simple and fluid that it will be enjoyed by everyone.
Conclusion:
All in all, Pentias – Master of the Elemental Jewels by Karthika Sajeev is a fun and enjoyable read that will take readers on a virtual adventure to fantasy lands with witches, curses, lost treasures, and a magic empowered enemy that needs to be stopped. So, an action packed thrilling adventure reminiscent of Enid Blyton’s Secret Seven, and Famous Five series; and the Harry Potter series, this book is an immersive fantasy that will keep you hooked to your seat throughout!
4 stars out of 5 to it and Njkinny recommends it to everyone – children and adults alike. Now I am so excitedly waiting for the next book in this series which is hinted at in this book.
So, go grab this book to read and gift it to your loved ones. Enjoy!
