Lucky For You by Andaleeb Wajid Book Review:
Lucky for You by Andaleeb Wajid came as such a pleasant surprise to me, and I am so glad I read this book!
In short, this book is a TOTAL ENTERTAINER!
So, I adored everything about it. Right from the characterisation, plot, narration, emotional play, intense and gripping romantic chemistry, and the engrossing suspense, this book had me hooked right from the start!
Plot and Narration:
While part of a series, and with interconnected characters, still this book can be read as a standalone. Though now I am itching to read the previous books!
Then the plot seems straightforward but it is so expertly executed that it held my attention throughout. The narration is fluid, and so effortlessly sucked me in that I felt like everything was happening in real time!
Every scene, every emotional shift, every suspenseful twist is admirably calculated, and added in the story that you will not be able to put this book down until the end.
Characters:
Real life, multi layered characters that are so easy to relate to are the highlight of this book.
Protagonists:
Heroine:
Iqra is such a lovable character. She names inanimate things and talks to them as if they are beloved friends. Then she is always positive which was such a breath of freshness, and made me love her even more. She is thrown in a heartbreaking situation where any other person would have felt betrayed, unhappy, and hopeless. But our heroine takes this unfortunate situation and makes it a lively one. She even makes her heartbroken and “I will never love you” proclaiming husband fall for her.
A firecracker heroine determined to make the best of a situation, and one who could have been a Detective if she so wished, I loved every scene with Iqra in it. So, it is safe to say that she is one of my absolute favourite heroines of all time!
Hero:
Saad is a man grief stricken over his lover’s sudden death. And then forced into a marriage for the sake of another loved one, he is confused and lost. My heart broke for him, and I eagerly prayed for a happily-ever-after for him. Then his awkward, then funny, then sensual, and ultimately memorable journey of falling in love with his wife is one of the best romantic journeys I have read in some time.
God, I liked her so much. My heart juddered at the thought. I liked her. That was it. And who wouldn’t? She was quirky and mad and compelling and funny. And beautiful…And she cared.”
Lucky For You by Andaleeb Wajid Book Quote
Protective Saad is hot, and had me sighing in pure delight.
…by god, if someone said something to her…, I wasn’t going to keep quiet. I didn’t even have to think why I was being so protective towards her. She was my wife. That was it.”
Lucky For You by Andaleeb Wajid Book Quote
I sat spellbound all through, and eagerly cheered for these two lost souls as they found love.
Supporting Characters:
The whole Starville Towers gang that have all featured in their own stories in the previous books make appearances in this one too. And I loved the easy camaraderie among them. Though having not read the previous books, I felt a small lack in my understanding of their dynamics including the previous interactions between Iqra and Saad. So, I recommend that you read the books in this series in order so that you understand the characters better.
Iqra’s mother irritated me and I just didn’t like her but boy, how the tables turned at the end.
Then I adored Saad’s grandmother, and Iqra’s dynamics with her were a delight. Also Saad’s mother’s relationship with Iqra had me enjoying their scenes together so much.
Romance and Suspense:
This is a book I heartily enjoyed reading. It made me laugh, cry, swoon, sigh, and then fan myself as I read the red hot scenes between the protagonists. The romance is heartfelt, relatable, full of challenges that will have you sitting up as you cheer for these slightly confused and yet so right for each other souls.
Then the suspense is thrilling, engrossing, and so splendidly developed that it will have you following Iqra as she fumbles, takes risks, and makes daring reveals. The end reveal is my favourite and what an exciting closure it is! Loved every second of it and clapped so hard for Iqra.
