Lion – Most Wanted by Douglas Misquita Book Review:
Douglas Misquita’s books always promise high octane action and adventure, and this one is no different. Though part of “The Escape” series, it can be read as a standalone story. And this I can attest to because I read this book without having read the previous one.
In Lion – Most Wanted we are taken to Russia where a high value target has escaped with the help of Lion. With a wide cast of characters, the story moves forward like a Hollywood action movie with fluid shifts between settings, and sub stories.
Things I Liked:
Title, Cover, and Blurb:
The title “Lion – Most Wanted” is very intriguing and will appeal to all readers. Then the cover is vivid, and the blurb adds to the intrigue. Overall, a compelling initial package that will make you stop and take notice.
Plot and World Building:
The plot of the story is straight forward but the narration, and execution makes it multi-layered, and interesting. I sat glued to my seat easily visualising every action sequence, and twist in my mind.
Then the world building is stellar, and as always intricate. The author has done his research of the places, the political history, and current situation to perfectly mesh them in the story. So, everything looked real and thrilling. Be it the heartbreaking plight of the people in Syria; or the working of a normal Russian family; or the dangers for a woman safeguarding her baby in a world of conflict, and bombs.
I felt a part of everything, and it was such an immersive experience!
Pace of the Story:
The story is medium paced and well balanced. Every situation is build to, and every twist well-calculated. Nowhere did it feel rushed, or lagging.
Characters and Narration:
The author has introduced a long list of characters in this book who all have roles to play. However, Aslan “The Lion” Terzi is the main character who successfully escaped from his torturous imprisonment, though he was scarred and heavily abused. Now he is back and his motives are unknown.
Then we also meet Sarah Rashnikov who is the daughter of the HVT, and a plethora of other characters including the Russian man accused of helping the HVT escape. All the characters have their own personal stories, and I was amazed at how well the author has portrayed them. I felt different emotions, and connection with each of them which is noteworthy and to be applauded!
Then the narration is fluid, the language is simple, though at many places I felt the need to Google about the places, and situations there to better understand the scenes. So, this is an intelligent book that not only entertained me but also enhanced my understanding of the world!
Things that could be better:
Sometimes the place shifts, and character switches got confusing. And I also felt a distinct lack of Aslan’s own emotional story. Being a hopeless romantic I wanted a deeper, angsty love angle for him. For now, he is a worthy action hero but I could not emotionally connect with him to the full potential.
Also often I felt a need for a breather from all the heart thumping action. So, a few lighter moments introduced throughout would have done wonders for this book.
Conclusion:
All in all, if you love thrilling action sequences, international intrigue and travel, and love heroes with a mile-long chivalrous streak then this book is for you. Lion- Most Wanted by Douglas Misquita will take you places, leave you guessing the motives, and the next step of our hero, and have you gasping at every dangerous and thrilling twist!
So, 4 out of 5 stars to this high- octane action adventure novel that reminded me of Hollywood Action movies, and Njkinny recommends it to all action adventure lovers.
