I and my five year old adored Sudha Murty’s previous chapter books like “How the Sea Became Salty?“, and have read all her chapter books so far. So, when I heard about her latest story about mangoes, I instantly got it for my kid. We love mangoes so we were so eager to read how the author had woven a story around our favourite fruit. And I am so glad to say that we enjoyed this beautiful story!
The illustrations done by Priyanka Pachpande are vivid, captivating, and such a charming complement to the story. And I felt they are the main highlight of this book. Then the story is simple, told in an easy yet fluid style that will be easily understood, and liked by young readers.
I also loved the important life lessons shared in this story, and the boon aspect to the story also thrilled my kid.
Then the book size is just right, and paper quality is glossy and thick so it is easily handled by little readers.
Things I felt could have been better:
While I enjoy Sudha Murty’s stories and this one is also a decent one. Still I feel that it is not at par with her previous stories. It is pretty straight forward, and the ending left my kid eager to know what happened to the girl. Then it lacked the depth we saw in her previous chapter books. With mango as the topic maybe we had higher expectations, but while the story is not bad, it isn’t great either. A one time read.
Conclusion:
All in all, How the Mango Got Its Magic by Sudha Murty is a short, sweet, moral based story for children that talks about the king of fruits, mango. With attractive pictures, and a fantastical story about how mango got its sweet taste, this book will be enjoyed by young readers as well as adults. So, 3.5 out of 5 stars to it. And Njkinny recommends this alluring book to everyone especially young readers.
So, a perfect gift for your kid, and other kids in your circle, go grab this latest chapter book from Sudha Murty now!
