Blurb of Dawn’s Desire by Shilpa Suraj:
One night of passion, a stolen moment of joy and six years of pain…
Rishi Khatri cannot forget the beautiful woman who swept into his life for one incredible night and then disappeared…with the contents of his wallet and large chunks of his heart.
Until the day, he meets Sehar again and he realises that he cannot forgive her. For, Rishi has made a cardinal mistake. He’s fallen in love with his one night stand.
Sehar Mirza’s one night of rebellion destroyed any chance of a normal future. But her heart cannot regret her choice. For in that one night, she laughed, she loved and she lost. She lived an entire lifetime.
When their paths cross again, Sehar and Rishi find their feelings for each other haven’t dimmed. All they want in life is another chance, a second chance.
But Sehar has a secret. One that will destroy their tentative happiness.
Can they learn to look beyond their past mistakes and hope for a shared future? Will Rishi forgive a betrayal so large that it leaves his already battered heart in pieces at Sehar’s feet?
Can love win? Or will loss claim their destiny for its own again?
Dawn’s Desire by Shilpa Suraj Book Review:
My heart broke and then healed in this absolutely gorgeous book!
Dawn’s Desire by Shilpa Suraj finally brings Sehar’s story to us. Right from the start she has been the responsible one. The mother hen to her other two friends. A guide, a friend, and a big sister but no one knew what challenges she faced because Sehar is always calm, composed, and in control of her life. A successful working woman, she seems to have it all but does she really?
I’d rather the world sees me as I am, scars, rips and all than huddle against a man, any man, and hide.”
Things I liked:
Shilpa Suraj brings readers right back to Avni, Diana and Sehar in this book, and as I read Dawn’s Desire, it was like coming back amidst friends. I have been following these three friends right from the first book in “Shades of Night” trilogy, “Midnight’s Star”, and been intrigued by Sehar. She has been a pillar of support for her friends as they each find their happily-ever-after but her personal life has always been shrouded in mystery.
As soon as she met Rishi, who is the friend of Dev and Manav, our heroes from the previous two books in this Indian romance trilogy, it was evident that there was something between them. And I had been itching to know more ever since.
Plot and Narration:
The plot is well planned and executed beautifully so that the story manages to keep the readers engrossed throughout. The narration is vivid and realistic. So, I could visualise the story in my mind throughout and felt connected to everything.
Characterisation:
Characterisation is one of the key highlights of this book and the series. Shilpa Suraj has sketched real life people we all have met or know in our lives. These are people with baggage, dreams, heartbreak, and a life full of struggles.
Sehar’s past and her dysfunctional family dynamics had my heart breaking. I cried for her yearning for love, acceptance, and support from her family; her past demons that still drive her; and her love for Rishi that is so full of challenges that a happy end seems impossible.
Rishi is also driven by his traumatic past and my heart wept watching him destroy himself. He is a man calm and collected on the outside with an inferno of emotional turmoil inside.
Both Rishi and Sehar’s dynamics will have you wiping your eyes, then sighing in love, and then wanting to shake them to let go of their past and give their love another chance.
Sehar was my weakness. The chink in my armour. The mistake I could never forget. The ‘what if’ I couldn’t forget. The girl who’d stolen my heart and never given it back.”
Meeting the supporting characters of Avni, Diana, Dev and Manav was a pleasure and I was so thrilled to watch them so happily in love.
We also meet Sehar’s brother who is another interesting character. While we don’t get to see his happily-ever-after here, I am hopeful to meet him again in a future book.
Sehar’s parents are symbolic of conservative, narrow minded people stuck in the past. So, they are more concerned about their public image than the happiness of their children.
Rishi’s father’s character was another interesting addition and his interactions with his son signified the damage communication gap does to a relationship. It was enlightening to see them be frank with each other in the end and heal their relationship.
Things I felt could be better:
While I loved everything about this book and sat glued to it until the very end, I did feel that the to and fro between Sehar and Rishi could have been shortened. They are too uncertain about each other. While they yearn for each other, they are still quick to withdraw from their relationship which had me frustrated after a few times witnessing it. The ending, though a welcome close, was still sudden with no concrete change in their thinking. It was like they were playing yo-yo with their commitment to give their relationship a chance and then suddenly decided that now they will stop and seriously commit.
Conclusion:
All in all, Dawn’s Desire by Shilpa Suraj is a heartfelt, emotional second chance romance full of angst, and a soul searing love. A worthy close to the “Shades of Night” trilogy, I adored this uplifting and emotionally rich contemporary romance. So, 4 out of 5 stars to it and Njkinny recommends this engrossing Indian romance to all romance lovers above the age of eighteen.
