Mark W. Sasse’s second book, The Recluse Storyteller tells the story of Margaret, a recluse, who lives alone in her apartment and who is the one with the stories. Stories flow in her mind. Ever since the death of her mother, five years ago, Margaret has confined herself to her apartment where she watches the lives of her neighbors and imagine stories with them as characters. The guy with the “red hat”, the two bubbly twins, the talkative and pretentious Mrs. Trumble etc. are the protagonists of her stories. She never writes, she never recounts her stories to anyone but still she weaves stories. Why?
Is her confinement a choice or a necessity?
Who is this reclusive storyteller?
Is she mad, psychic or a criminal hiding from the law?
Are her stories just a fancy or they serve a higher purpose?
A book with depth and sensitivity, The Recluse Storyteller
by Mark W. Sasse won my heart.The cover is intriguing and tells nothing of what is to come in the book. This creates mystery. 🙂The blurb is intriguing but I do think that it should have been made more appealing and more clear so as to give the reader a better understanding of the book.
The plot is new and I loved the idea of weaving small stories with a single background story which connects all the other stories. Mark challenges the reader with cross weaving, multi layered stories which are so beautifully narrated and so sensitively portrayed that they fill the readers’ hearts with warmth. Taking the reader on an emotional roller coaster with stories that will change the lives of many and also give an insight in to the life of The Recluse Storyteller
, I liked the book very much and look forward to reading more from Mark W. Sasse in the future.The writing style of the author is engaging and despite being simple the writing creates a vivid mental picture and makes the reader feel as if he is right there in the midst of all the action.
Beautiful characterization which teaches that there is always more to people than meets the eye, I give The Recluse Storyteller
a 4.5 out of 5 and highly recommend it people looking for an intelligent, sensitive and entertaining book to read. I received the book from the author to read and review and I am very thankful to him. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
