Messed Up! But All For Love by Arvind Parashar caught my eye because of its unusual title and intriguing cover. The blurb is engaging and together leave a compelling first impression.


The story is about two couples whose lives take a turn when one of them disappears. Secrets are revealed and relationships are tested.


I had high hopes for this book. I hoped for romance with a good dose of suspense but this book had its own ideas. There is romance but it doesn’t go the usual happily-ever-after way. It brings out the relationship messes of the modern Indian couples where lack of communication and disloyalty thrive with each person more attuned to his/her wants with no attempt to compromise and work towards their relationships. This is a serious book that raises serious issues with a smattering of light moments.


The story is in first POV and told by Neil to his boss. Now I wanted a better understanding of Neil and his boss’ relationship to warrant her undivided interest in his story even during office hours. Also with the first POV, the narrator can only tell the story from his perspective but still, sometimes I got confused who was the narrator which had me fumbling. I applaud the author on the attempt and wish him the best. With more practice, he will no doubt add more shine to it.

The characterization is done well but still, more depth could have been added to the characters. I felt sorry for Neil but didn’t particularly connect with him. The same happened for Gauri and the other characters who felt real but still made me feel like I was reading about them and not experiencing the story first hand.


The usage of Hinglish words was a downside for me. I believe mixing English or Hindi with Hinglish confuses the non-Hinglish knowing readers and gives off a lacking in vocabulary impression for the author which is not good. The same goes for Hindi. If your book is in English, stick to English mainly, a few words here and there are okay but too many spoils the story.


There is also usage of cuss words which could have been avoided.


All in all, Messed Up! But All For Love by Arvind Parashar is an admirable attempt by the author and I enjoyed reading it. A one time read for me, I give it 3 stars out of 5 and look forward to reading more from the author in the future.
