My Review:
A book with an unusual title, this was my first book by Anne Marie Novark. I got it free on Amazon and bought it because of the intriguing blurb.
Jessie and Cameron went out just once but Jessie had always had a crush on Cameron which turned into love that day. While Cameron left town for higher studies, Jessie is left behind with an ailing father and a crumbling business. The story picks up after seventeen years with the return of Cameron who is now a famous doctor and very rich. Jessie, on the other hand, is almost broke, a widow and desperately trying alone to keep her family’s business afloat.
The characterization is crisp and I could relate to the small town environment and the friendly people. Cameron is a strong character who stirs our romantic sides. Jessie is a sweet and a good girl who forsakes her ambition to care for her father and tries real hard to keep her legacy alive. The only point I felt frustrating about her was her unwanted focus on a promise made to her dying husband for a feud which is so ridiculous that I rolled my eyes a few times. 🙂
The story moves at a medium pace and though the excess focus on the physical side of the protagonist’s relationship did make me lose some interest, the overall story is good and keeps you sufficiently interested. The emotional scenes between Cameron and Jessie are touching and made me really want a happily-ever-after for them.
The author has the flair of story telling and is able to create her world in the book.
A breezy and light hearted read, I give The Doctor Wears A Stetson a 3.5 out of 5. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
