Trigger Point by Douglas Misquita Book Review:
Trigger Point by Douglas Misquita is the first book by the author that I have read and it was like watching an action-packed movie where the hero takes dangerous risks and puts his life on the line to save the world! I am so glad I picked this book up to read.
Things I Liked:
In this book, Luc Fortesque is evading authorities, private contractors and secret societies from all over the world because he has something that they all want. Willing to go to any lengths and kill anyone who comes in the way, danger is dogging his every step and no one can be trusted. Amidst this danger, Luc is determined to stay one step ahead and do what is right!
It is one of those books where so much is happening with even a tiny detail important that you fear you cannot give out anything about the story lest you give away a spoiler. So, I won’t share much about the story. Just know that it is thrilling, exciting and totally worth reading!
This is the third book in “Luc Fortesque” series but it can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the previous books but enjoyed this book with no feeling of having missed something. However, it is always best to read books in a series in order. I plan to read the previous books in this series now and then revisit this book again later on.
Plot and storytelling:
The action and mystery starts right from the start and the events jump from one part of the world to next rapidly. Seemingly unconnected, it was a bit difficult initially to keep track of all the different characters and events happening across continents but then slowly the pictures starts getting clear. I sat glued to my seat and took copious notes as I read this well-researched book.
The author has done extensive research while plotting this story and it shows in his fluency in showcasing the detailed picture of the action. Be it the Paris Catacombs or the Xinjiang autonomous region of China or the Mexican Cenotes, I learned so much about the famous World tourist destinations like these, the cultures of people from these countries, and their history through this book!
Like this quote from the book that is part of the description of the Paris catacombs. This showcases the history of and creates a vivid mental picture of the Paris catacombs in the readers minds. The last sentence leaves the readers intrigued, anticipating a thrilling development that believe me we get!
In 1810, the director of Inspection Generale des Carrieres transformed the haphazard dumping of bones into a macabre work of art – a mausoleum made popular as the Paris Catacombs. Today, the catacombs is a museum and a venue for public events, including parties and concerts.
Also, most of it is off-limits and unmapped.”

Characterisation:
Another shining point of the book are the expert and realistic characterizations. Each and every character, be it a primary character or a supporting one, had me easily visualizing him or her in my mind. They are believable and characters that we see around us or on TV. Be it Luc Fortesque who, despite being the character after whom this series is named, appeared after so much had happened across countries or Garrett who became so important later on in the story, I loved meeting every character. My pulse raced in excitement every time the story jumped places and I eagerly turned pages to know more.
Luc Fortesque’s character is described in such an intriguing way that he appears unreal, just a figment of our imagination. A man no one truly knows and who comes, does the impossible, and then vanishes the next instant without leaving a trace!
An aura of mystery surrounded the man…”

Other things I liked:
This book is professionally edited and I loved how I could not find any grammar or vocabulary error in it. This is a major plus for me when I read a book.
The story is fast paced and fluid. It will engage you right from the start and while it took time to form a clear picture, I loved reading about the seemingly unconnected events happening in different countries with varied characters. Each event looked like it was happening right in front of my eyes and held me engrossed.
This book is extensive in its world building and takes place literally all over the world. A treat for action adventure thriller lovers, I am in awe of the author’s expert planning and execution of such an intricate plot. This book can easily become a movie and I would so love to watch it on-screen!
This book is one that cannot be read and enjoyed in one sitting. It is lengthy at 597 pages and best enjoyed in sittings. I read a few chapters at one time, then went online to read about the places where the story was taking place and enhanced my understanding of the cultural references used. The book mentions the various resources used to create the story as it is and they are a treasure trove of knowledge. I read through several of them and it has built my knowledge about religion, politics, and culture so much.
Things that could be better:
The only suggestion I have for the author is that he include a character glossary at the start of the book so readers can consult it while reading the book. With so many characters and that, too, from different countries and cultures, it sometimes was difficult to keep track of them.
Conclusion:
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Trigger Point by Douglas Misquita and Njkinny recommends this high-intensity action adventure thriller to everyone. It is a winner and totally worth reading. If you love adventure thrillers by Dan Brown, James Patterson, and series like “Jason Bourne” and, “Jack Reacher”, then this book is for you. A perfect gift for action, adventure, and thriller lovers, I give Trigger Point 5 out of 5 super shiny stars and look forward to reading more from the author in the future.
