The Girl in the Love Song by Emma Scott Review:

THE GIRL IN THE LOVE SONG by Emma Scott is a romance that won me over. I loved it so much that it not only has become one of the best reads of 2020 for me but also ever!

A thirteen year old girl meets a scrawny boy running away from his dire poverty and they become friends. A friendship that will have your heart jumping and your face breaking in a wide smile. Violet and Miller are made for each other but each has demons that ride their every decision. Miller is the poor boy with no home, no father and a desperate mother. Violet’s family looks picture perfect on the outside but inside there is domestic friction, absentee parents, constant fighting, and no peace.

There love story starts from age thirteen but Violet is adamant to keep it strictly friendship, afraid she will lose her friend just like everyone else in her life.

Promise me,” she said.

Promise me, we’ll always be friends. I can’t lose you again. Not ever…”

I wanted to laugh and tell her how impossible that is. How I crossed a boundary that night we met. How all broken pieces of my life come together when I’m with her, even for a little while. How we’d been hanging out for months and every minute I tried to find the courage to tell her that this poor homeless kid with nothing to offer would die for her. “

I swallowed hard, swallowed down what I want to say, because I’m thirteen and I’m not supposed to love a girl like this. So soon. So completely.”

The Girl in the Love Song by Emma Scott Quotes

For Miller, Violet is the girl in his every love song but when circumstances change and Miller becomes a hot and famous rock star will this create more difficulties or bring their love story to a happy ending?

…every night I visited her, I climbed up the trellis like Romeo does in the play. Except in this version, Juliet friendzoned Romeo Romeo. Hard.”

The Girl in the Love Song by Emma Scott Quotes

This is the story of “A girl with a romantic heart and the boy who wrote love songs.”

I adored Shiloh who is quirky and a good friend to Violet. I am so eager to read her own story and hope we get it soon.

Ronan, Holden and Miller are opposites in every sense and yet best friends. There bond is so beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing their relationship grow. All have seen and experienced trauma and I had tears in my eyes as I read about them. Again, I am so eager to read their stories. River also had me invested in his struggles to balance his dreams with his parent’s aspirations. So eager to meet these beloved characters again.

My best friends are a vampire and a criminal, I thought as we fished out a few bucks to play. What does that make me?”

The Girl in the Love Song by Emma Scott Quotes

Vi and Miller face so many difficulties and challenges in their path to a happily-ever-after and I rooted for them throughout. Glued to my seat throughout and unable to set this book down until the every end, I was left smiling and wiping tears of joy from my eyes.

In that instance- the length of a heartbeat- a lifetime passed between us. An understanding that he and I were inevitable. Fated…The girl with the romantic heart and the boy who wrote love songs.”

The Girl in the Love Song by Emma Scott Quotes

5 out of 5 super shiny stars to it from me , go read this must-read romance from Emma Scott now. This was the first book by Emma Scott that I read but it won’t be the last. This book is such an empowering story of love, loss, second chances, friendship, enduring challenges to realize your dreams and taking chances for happiness.  I am in love with her storytelling and am already midway into the second book in the “Lost Boys” series, “When You Come Back To Me“.

The urge to protect one’s heart is the strongest urge of all. But it’s also impossible if you want to live a rich, full life.”
