Book Review:
Play of Light by Debra Doxer is the first book by the author that I have read and it certainly wont be my last!
With a stunning cover and an intriguing title, this is the story of two people so perfect for each other who, although they live in ‘heaven’, are surrounded by unfortunate events that shape their lives to be not-so-perfect.

I was first struck by the cover which attracts you at first glance and had me stopping to check out the book. The blurb is again very intriguing and it sealed the deal for me.

I absolutely fell in the spell cast by Debra right from the start and could not take my eyes off the pages until I had finished reading. The story is nothing that intricate but it is the writing style that makes it exquisite and unique.

Debra’s writing style is simple but so expressive that it had me feeling all the angst, heartbreak, dilemmas and other myriad range of emotions felt by the protagonists. The book is written in the first person from Sarah’s POV and had me feeling first love, first heartbreak, first betrayal and then the determination to rise above her misfortune felt by the heroine, Sarah and face her past again to get closure.

Both Sarah and Spencer are normal people dealing with their own problems. I loved loved Spencer with his guilt and the darkness surrounding him and could not help but become his supporter. There story consumed me right from the start and then left me breathless, feeling so much and wanting to return to them again!

The love between him and Sarah is so poignant and heartfelt that it made me remember Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan that is again a memorable love story full of angst, heartbreak and facing difficulties to finally get their HEA.

This is a story rich in emotions, intrigue and so much more than just a story of second chance love. I was transported to Cape Cod with its vivid beauty described through an artist’s (Sarah) eyes and had me visualizing the peace, beauty and serenity of the place that had the heroine feeling like she lived in ‘heaven’!

The past and the present is so beautifully woven together that I could not help feeling impressed by Debra Doxen’s writing prowess. She is truly talented and an author I am most happy to discover. There are so many touching and memorable quotes in this book that I kept highlighting them and still feeling like I wasn’t taking enough notice!

The only thing that had me feeling a bit disappointed was that the author doesn’t bring Sarah’s mother and sister to a closure. I wanted to read about their reactions to the closure she was bringing to their past tragedy and how their relationship was going to improve with it. Also, I wanted to know when the truth really came out, how it impacted the people involved.

All in all, Play of Light by Debra Doxer came as a pleasant surprise and became a memorable book for me. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and recommend it to all lovers of romance. I hope I get to meet Spence and Sarah again and it would make me so happy to see how their life turned out after this book. Maybe, Debra will feature them again in her future books. I have my fingers crossed!
