Book Review:
No Perfect Destiny is the story of Leah Spencer, a normal single mother of two adorable kids except as normal as she looks, nothing is commonplace about her starting from her secret past to her attempts at trying to be a wall flower. When Leah is accused of embezzlement of funds, her already complicated life gets more complicated with the arrival of the quirky and yet dashing Detective Leo Garvey who both irritates and attracts her.
What will happen to Leah?
Will she be able to lay low and come out unscathed from this difficulty or will her past finally catch up with her?
Is Leo the man she has been waiting for all her life?
As is the case with Jackie’s books, this one too is a feel good romance with realistic characters who are flawed and yet so connectable that I felt like I already knew them!
The cover is interesting and combined with the intriguing title, guarantee of the author’s name to give a great story and engaging blurb, this book had me captivated enough to pick it up to read.
I read this book the first time as part of an anthology called the Hearts & Kisses that contains 12 full length novels from 12 Best selling authors and absolutley loved it. I reread it again just recently and had to share the review separately with you.
The plot is simple and yet layers are added to add to the suspense and mystery of the story. Jackie’s writing style is simple and yet engaging and she makes the scenes, scenarios and emotions realistic and makes the reader invested in the story. I felt like everything was happening to someone close to my heart and found myself sitting at the edge of my seat in anticipation of events to come, all the time praying for a happy ending to the till now struggle filled life of Leah.
Leah has struggled to give her children a safe haven and despite scraping for every penny, she tries to never deny anything her children want which was very cute and had me feeling more close to her. Her protectiveness towards her children was another thing that won her brownie points from me. The romance between Leo and her starts off as lust but then soon we realize that what they are feeling is honest-to-goodness love!
Leo is a hero unlike any other that I have come across. He dresses in vintage clothes, has some pretty adorable quirks and sounds as someone a little dim but wait till you meet him and he is unlike the image we have created in our minds. He is strong and a dedicated Detective with alpha male like qualities. Both these facets contrast and made him a memorable character for me.
The story moves rapidly and the twists and turns are well calculated that had me engaged right till the end. This is a clean romance and despite the lack of intimate scenes the author manages to convey the romantic feelings of the protagonists very expertly and had me rooting for a happily-ever-after for them.
All in all, No Perfect Destiny is an entertaining romance that I enjoyed reading and then rereading. 4 out of 5 to it and recommended to all romance lovers. I love Jackie Weger’s writing style and look forward to reading more from her in the future. Go checkout her books and enjoy!
