Midnight’s Star by Shilpa Suraj Review:
Midnight’s Star by Shilpa Suraj is the first book in her latest romance series, “Shades of Night”. Featuring a dashing blind writer and a lovable cafe owner, this cozy romance is set in a quaint cafe called “The Teacup”.
Right from the start this romance had me hooked. As a result, I sat engrossed and finished this book in one sitting!
A short, breezy read with heart, I loved every second spent reading this heartwarming story with realistic characters who soon became my friends.
Midnight’s Star by Shilpa Suraj Book Summary:
Dev and Avni meet in Avni’s cafe when he comes in to meet a prospective bride. Both connect over tiramisu cake after his prospective bride leaves him humiliated and Avni’s boyfriend dumps her by getting engaged to someone else. This starts a friendship that had me chuckling and thoroughly enjoying myself.
Things I Liked:
Dev’s turbulent past and Avni’s boyfriend angle added more spice to the story. I cheered loudly as Avni handled her ex and what impressive handling it was too! She is such a strong character and her braving every challenge in her life will definitely earn your respect.
Life is rarely easy. It’s only the challenges that differ for everyone. But the fact that they exist are undeniable.”
Midnight’s Star by Shilpa Suraj Quote
The author has sensitively and maturely brought to life the struggles of people with handicap. The insecurities, helplessness and the feeling of being a burden had my heart breaking. What normal people feel as boringly normal is sometimes something people with disabilities dream of being able to do! This realisation that what is easy and unremarkable for us can be difficult and an achievement for others is brought home by Shilpa’s beautiful handling of the characters and story.
Add the diverse yet loyal friends of the protagonists to the mix and we get an entertainer that is the perfect break from the monotony of real life. Now I am eagerly awaiting Sehar, Diana, Manav and Rishi’s stories.
I especially loved Avni’s patient understanding towards her disabled father and Dev’s towards his mother.
We’re are a family. We play different roles at different points in our life but it doesn’t in any way take away from who we are or what we mean to each other. You are my support. You will always be my support.”

Conclusion:
I laughed, cried and swooned as I followed Dev and Avni to their happily-ever-after, and was left with a huge satisfied smile on my face at the end.
So, a well planned and executed story line, expertly developed realistic characters with past demons and baggage that won my heart, and a romance that had me feeling all mushy inside, I absolutely adored reading Midnight’s Star.
…the day you walked into my life, Avni, you brought me the light. You were the star that lit up that endless canvas of midnight.”
