Book Review:
Melody Nolan along with her two girlfriends, made a pact to find the right husbands. Now that one of them, Hadleigh is married and got her “right husband” in Tripp, Melody wishes for her own happy ending. But the trouble is that the only man she ever loved, rejected her love proposal all those years ago, thereby breaking her heart. Ever since Melody has never made that same mistake again and hence never truly been in a serious relationship.

However, she is thrown when that same man, Spence Hogan who also happens to be the local Sheriff, shows interest in her again and seems to be trying to win her over.

Is Spence, a confirmed ladies man who never settles with one woman long, serious this time?
Can Melody give Spence a second chance at love?

The Marriage Charm by Linda Lael Miller is the second book in The Brides of Bliss County series but despite this, the book can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the first book, The Marriage Pact and still enjoyed reading this second book without feeling like I was missing something. The author gives a background on the first book and easily brings the reader up-to-date with the previous happenings without giving away too much. Instead, she successfully leaves the reader intrigued and eager to read the first book too!

The cover is both beautiful and oozes romance. The blurb is interesting and capable of capturing the readers’ attention.

This is the first book by Linda that I have read and I enjoyed her writing style. She is witty, charming and then instantly shifts to the somber tones fluidly. Her writing style is simple, frank and had me captivated right till the end. I felt all the emotions experienced by the characters and was easily transported to the Western town of Bliss County with its cowboys, ranches, vast countryside and the all small town humour. Even the suspense element is so beautifully handled. The mysterious robberies in town had me feeling the chills and exercising my brain to figure out the real culprit.

I loved Melody. She is independent. strong, loyal and a romantic. She was sure that she was in love even when she was just nineteen and fell for Spence. Now after so many years, she still has feelings for him but is also mature enough to stop and consider her actions before making that same mistake. Her friendship with her two girlfriends is so sweet and made me miss my own girlfriends. They share everything with each other and have each other’s backs.

Spence has had a rough childhood and because of this, he doesn’t believe in love or marriage. He is careful never to date the same woman for long but the only woman who ever came near capturing his heart is Melody. His realization and his attempts to win Melody over had me smiling and rooting that he succeed. The romance is sweet, heartfelt and sometimes intense. There emotions are beautifully brought out and developed.

Overall, The Marriage Charm is an entertaining romance with a good dose of suspense. The chase between Spence and Melody is interesting and sure to keep you hooked. 4 out of 5 to it and recommended to all romance lovers.

I loved Linda’s style and will be checking out her other books including the books in this series.

I received the book from NetGalley to read and review. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
