Romance Book Review: Love the One You Hate by R S Grey

Love the One You Hate by R.S. Grey is the latest contemporary romance from the author featuring an enemies-to-lovers theme.

Love the One You Hate by R S Grey Book Summary:

Maren Mitchells has had a hard life ever since her parents’ death when she was thirteen. Constantly shuffled from one place to another under the foster system, she has faced biasedness and prejudice all her life. People immediately think the worst of her, no matter how good she is.

“I’ve learned over the years that people look at you differently if you’re a foster kid, like you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain…”

Made to feel like an outsider all her life, Maren’s life changes when the uber rich socialite Mrs Cornelia Cromwell makes a proposition to her. Hired as a companion to the slightly eccentric, prim but very kind lady, Maren is thrown into a world so different from her own. Tea Parties, Galas, Luncheons and mingling with the upper class of society is in her job description. Happy for the first time, she is again faced with Cornelia Cromwell’s grandson, Nicholas’ prejudice.

Nicholas is highly protective of his grandmother and burned many times by people close to them who betrayed his family’s trust time and again for money, he is suspicious of Maren and determined to make her leave his grandmother’s employ.

“Prejudice is a pervasive disease. I have an overwhelming fear that I will always be painted by a stained brush, that no matter how I dress or talk or smile…to cover the mold in the group home, there’s no denying that I’m Maren Mitchell- less than…”

Nicholas and Maren start out as enemies but as they spend time with each other, they come to realise that sometimes what one sees is not the truth. Nicholas thinks of Maren as a cunning, con woman who is taking advantage of his grandmother. Maren, on the other hand, thinks of Nicholas as cruel, self-centered and arrogant.

Things I Liked:

R S Grey yet again surprises the readers with a soulful and heartfelt romance that has angst, a slow-burning romance and heavy emotional play. I got teary-eyed many times while reading this book and absolutely adored every second spent reading this story.

Well-planned plot, admirable execution with well-fleshed out, multi-dimensional characters, Love the One You Hate has everything one looks for in a good book. It is entertaining with characters that soon felt like friends and a story that had me engrossed throughout. I sat glued to my seat and then was left wanting more.

I am so eager to read the story of Barrett, Ariana and get to meet Nicholas-Maren-Cornelia again.

Professionally edited, I found no grammatical or vocabulary errors in the book and loved the book cover too.

Conclusion:

All in all, Love the One You Hate by R.S. Grey is a must-read romance that will have you swooning and falling in love with the story, characters and the settings, especially Rosethorn, the enchanting residence of the Cromwells. 5 out of 5 stars to it and Njkinny Recommends this slow-burning, enemies-to-lovers romance to all romance lovers above the age of sixteen. Go read this book like now and you can thank me later!
