Book Review: Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh (Psy-Changeling #12)
#BookReview: Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling #12) by Nalini Singh
Oh Wow! I don’t have words enough to emphasize my love for Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh as well as the “Psy-Changeling series”. I literally took a chance with this series after so many of my book lover friends raved about it. Ready to prove them wrong, I never expected this series to become such a favourite of mine. I am so glad that I take chances while picking up books to read. This series is a gem that will make you a fan even if you aren’t a fan of the paranormal genre like me. It all started with “Slave to Sensation”, the first book in this series and I haven’t looked back since.
Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh is the story of Psy Councillor Kaleb Krycheck, “Cardinal telekinetic and a man no one wanted to meet alone on a dark night…”. While the previous books in this series can be read as standalone, you have to have read the past books to truly understand and appreciate this book. Kaleb is an enigma, a man feared by everyone who comes across his ruthless strength. His motivations, inclinations, and thoughts are all his own with no one privy to anything about him except what he chooses to show. His sudden rise to power in the Psy Council has made people suspicious and inquisitive but not much is known about his past.
Shrouded in mystery, Kaleb’s story is one I had been waiting to read for a long time. In this book, we get a detailed insight into his life, his motivations and into his dedication to that one person for whom he has been searching for years and is willing to destroy everything.
“He was the most powerful Psy in the Net, of that he had no doubt, his psychic strength enough to destroy the very fabric of their race- or to control it. As to which he chose to do…it depended on her. If she demanded vengeance, he’d turn the world bloodred…”
A bold story about an anti-hero who is described as “the monster that stalked nightmare” and his love for a woman who always saw him but was then taken away from him, this book is equal parts dark and defiant. It is a story of two people who are willing to defy all odds and fly free, their dedication and love towards each other so pure, I had tears freely running down my cheeks as I read this beautiful and enchanting paranormal romance.
“Love is the greatest form of loyalty, one that places the happiness of the beloved over that of the lover…”
Kaleb and the heroine (I won’t disclose her name) are one of my absolute favourite book couples of all time. There connection and love for each other is awe-inspiring and something that all people in love aspire to have with their lovers.
“He hooked the charm into place. “Only this star matters.” His thumb brushing over her inner wrist. “Should it be erased, no other has the right to live.”
The world-building is phenomenal in this series and it raises a level higher in this book. There are many storylines parallelly running in the story. There is the romance between the protagonists, a fanatic Psy group targeting the Psy race, the conniving schemes of the Psy Councillors, the devious scheme of some Psy leaders aspiring to rule over the other races and the re-visit with the Changeling characters who are trying to safeguard their world against the Psy. The identity of the mysterious Psy rebel “The Ghost” is also revealed in this book and the stage set for the subsequent books.
This book has fireworks and is a story that is truly timeless. I have already read it countless times ever since I read it for the first time in 2014.
“I saw wild, dangerous beauty. I saw devotion. I saw you.”
Scorching hot and a must-read, Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh shows the author’s sheer genius writing prowess and gives the readers a story that is unforgettable and pure magic. A worthy entry to my list of Top 26 Favourite Romance Novels to read, Njkinny recommends this book to all paranormal romance lovers above the age of eighteen. Super shiny 5 out of 5 stars to it. Wait no longer, go grab this book like now!
