I’m good at hiding my feelings.
Having to pretend I’m not in love with my best friend?
Pfft. That’s child’s play.
Here’s how I do it: I avert my eyes when he walks out of his room, shirtless in all his toned glory. I squash the butterflies that fill my stomach every time he slowly unfurls a dimpled smile. And, most importantly, I keep an arsenal of “personal massagers” in my bedside drawer. Wink.
Not to brag, but Aiden Smith isn’t hard to resist if you’ve been doing it for as long as I have. In fact, we might have continued as best friends forever if not for the fact that I needed him to play the part of my fake boyfriend.
Date me like you mean it, I told him. Nudge nudge. C’mon, just go along with a little lie, help a girl out, and then we can all return to life as we know it.
Except he veered from the plan.
He crossed the line.
Flirting with me when no one else was around? Pinning me down and kissing me like that? Okay, how exactly is taking off my bra part of the ruse, Aiden?!
I’d ask him about it if I could, but well…things got ugly and we’re not best friends anymore.
In fact, we’re the exact opposite.
Now, I have to play nice even though I want to crush his heart in the palm of my hand.
Pretending not to love Aiden was the easy part.
Pretending not to hate him?
Well…I might need a little more practice.
Date Me Like You Mean It by R.S. Grey Review:
Date Me Like You Mean It by R.S. Grey is the cute love story of Maddie and Aiden who are best friends and roommates. Maddie has secret feelings for her best friend but is unable to take the risk of letting him know because in case of a rejection it can ruin the deep connection that they share. What starts out as friendship and secret love leads to a journey full of laughs, tears, heartbreak, distance and then after many challenges, an ending that will leave you smiling in contentment and happiness!
I love RS Grey’s writing and all her books are must-reads. She is one author whose books I buy without any forethought. This one is another stellar romance from her and when I opted to read it, I didn’t know what to expect from it and was pleasantly surprised. Seeming like a usual friends-to-lovers romance, this book will surprise you at every turn. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, a twist left me reeling and guessing again.
This book is also inferred as an enemies-to-lovers romance but after reading the book, I feel that this is more accurately a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romance. However, the connection and feelings between Maddie and Aiden are so strong that they are never enemies in the true sense. Even when they face challenges in their love story, they never truly forego the care they have for each other. So, in my opinion, I won’t categorize this book as an enemies-to-lovers romance.
Two people who are so in-tune with each other that everyone around them can see that they belong with each other, Maddie and Aiden’s banter and slow-burn romance is refreshingly engaging and had me glued to my seat until the every end. I started reading this romance late in the evening and kept at it until the early morning hours because I just could not leave without seeing my two favourite people get their happily-ever-after!
A standalone romantic comedy that is funny, realistic and has all the feels with a swoony hero and a heroine we will all relate to, I absolutely loved reading this book. 4.5 out of 5 stars to Date Me Like You Mean It by R.S. Grey and Njkinny recommends this memorable romance to everyone. If you believe in the magic of true love then this book is for you.
I received an ARC for review and I am very thankful to the author. The Above is my honest and unbiased review that is in no way influenced.
You’re the one I want to be with. Okay? Through the bad times and the good. You’re my best friend.”
