A Goan Holiday by Anitha Perinchery Book Review:
A Goan Holiday Book Summary:
A Goan Holiday by Anitha Perinchery is the second book in her “Indian Summer” series and is the story of Vikram’s (from “One Monsoon in Mumbai “) sister, Anjali. Anjali has been the perfect daughter. She became a doctor just like her parents, married a man acceptable to her parents, and was for all intents-and-purposes the perfect wife. But unknown to everyone, she has been facing her demons alone and when those demons lead to a complete nervous breakdown, she is sent to recuperate in Goa and manage the charity clinic there. However, something fishy has been going on in the charity Joshi clinic and now the Interpol is involved and they are suspicious of Anjali!
To add more oil to an already burning fire, she comes across her ex from college who had suddenly disappeared all those years ago leaving her heartbroken, and her current ex is also in town. With two men suddenly wanting her, a nosy neighbour, and the police looking for any opportunity to lock her behind bars, Anjali’s life is a hot mess!
What I loved:
I loved reading this holiday romance! With picturesque settings of Goa, this book had me feeling the beach vibes. While part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone. Therefore, I picked it up not knowing that it was connected to “One Monsoon in Mumbai” and thoroughly enjoyed it! However, halfway through the story when I realised that this book was connected, my enjoyment level increased tenfold because I connected all the dots about my favourite characters and understood their actions better.
More intense than “One Monsoon in Mumbai“, Anitha sensitively touches on taboo topic of sexuality, as well as topics like parental and societal expectations, and damage done to relationships due to miscommunication or lack of communication. Through Anjali, Rishi, and Joe’s characters, the author brings to life the struggles, heartache, and pressure felt by individuals when they try to stray from the moulds set by the society and family.
I laughed, cried, raged, and then prayed fervently for a happy ending for the characters in this engaging story. So much more than just a love triangle Doctor romance, this book is suspenseful, inspiring, motivating, relatable, and a total must read.
Though a bit lengthy, the story is divided in parts and chapters that make the reading process easier. So, I sat glued throughout and loved each second spent reading this heartfelt Indian romance that easily had me feeling invested in everything that was happening.
Conclusion:
All in all, A Goan Holiday by Anitha Perinchery is another splendid contemporary romance with all the feels. Be ready to have your heart beating fast then broken and then finally stitched back together with an ending so memorable it had happy tears flowing freely from my eyes. The suspense had me guessing and captive throughout. So, I adored this book so much, I am so happy to have found Anitha Perinchery’s books. She is a talented writer and I highly recommend her books. Njkinny recommends this romance with heart to everyone. So, what are you waiting for? Go on a Goan holiday and joy!
5 out of 5 super shiny stars to it from me and I look forward to reading from the author in the future.
