Twenty-four year old Kevin Anderson lost the opportunity to end his senior year at the University of Washington as the Huskies’ all-star point guard, and sought out one last opportunity to put his extraordinary basketball skills to use: by training for a chance at the pros.
But when he’s not on the court, Kevin has only two things in his life that gives him happiness: spinning records at the local clubs, and Trinity Brown.
Trinity attends almost every one of Kevin’s deejay gigs, but Kevin is uncertain if her love for him is genuine or a fangirl’s simple admiration. Kevin takes that chance and hopes that she will see beyond the celebrity persona. But when fall classes start up again, their busy schedules press their relationship.
Kevin doesn’t want to give up on her–on them. He hopes the happiness they had will rebound once more.
But when he learns the truth about Trinity, Kevin must decide if it is worth everything–and everyone–he cares about to save her, or forfeit this exhausting game of love.
~Book Review~
I found Marie Long when I read her book, Scarred which is the first book in The Anderson Brothers series and absolutely loved it. Then when I came to know about Marie’s newest installment in this series, Scratched, I just knew that I had to read it.
While this book is part of a series still it can read as a standalone but it is always recommended that you read a series in order.
The blurb of the book is interesting and grips our attention. The cover could have been better. I feet that the artists on the cover look a bit aloof. I would have loved a bit of the intense chemistry that we see in the book, reflected here.
The plot is intriguing and beautifully executed. I was first intrigued by Kevin in the first book and here we get his full story. He sacrificed his college and basketball career so he could support his family. Now a successful deejay, he wishes to return to college and follow his love for playing basketball. Enter Trinity, his biggest fan and he falls hard for her. But their path to happiness is riddled with problems.
Marie’s writing style is engaging and fluid. She had me totally invested in the story and the plight of the characters. I could feel Kevin and Trinity’s growing attraction towards each other and also their own secrets which inhibited them. The story moves at the right pace and had me gripped right till the end.
The characterization is expertly done and after reading two books in this series, I feel like I know all these people, like they are my own family. The romance between Trinity and Kevin is intense. Trinity’s past seems valid and her inhibitions justified. A few things about her in the later part looked unnecessary but still overall, I loved these two.
All in all, Scratched is an entertaining story about second chances in both love and life and if you love sports romances with a gripping story, real-life flawed characters then this one is for you. 4 out of 5 to it. I love Marie Long’s books and look forward to reading the next book in this series.
