All Kinds of Wrong by @Shilpaauthor is a complete package that not only gave me intense, spine tingling suspenseful moments, and heartfelt romance but also gave me laughter filled moments! Read #BookReview , #BookQuotes #IARTG Share on XAll Kinds of Wrong by Shilpa Suraj Book Review:
Things that attracted me towards this book:
I got attracted towards All Kinds of Wrong because firstly, it was a Shilpa Suraj book and I adore her stories, and secondly because of the captivating cover, unique title and intriguing blurb. So, positively fascinating, the blurb had me itching to start reading this book right away!
Then once I started, I was hooked and finished this book in one sitting!
Things I liked:
Nail biting Suspense that kept me guessing until the very end:
"Instincts honed over years of working in dangerous situations told him that there was more afoot here than an ardent admirer."- #BookQuote @shilpaauthor 's All Kinds of Wrong #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #IARTG #NjkinnyRecommends Share on XChills ran down my skin as I followed clues to solve the mystery of the devious stalker who didn’t leave any trail behind but was determined enough to take dangerous risks as he frightened Alia. So much so that even the Police was not believing her.
So, the suspense portion of the book is done admirably. The twists and turns were unexpected. And I could not guess the identity of the stalker. The thrill element also kept me on edge frightened yet intrigued to know what happened next!
Then there seems to be no motive, no suspect, and no clues to find this stalker who gives the terrifying impression of being omnipresent and omniscient. The author expertly uses red herrings, disturbing yet brilliant use of lyrical threats, and even takes up mental illness angle to further enhance the chilling thriller feel of the book.
Admirable attempt to shed light on numerous social evils prevalent in our society:
The author has raised so many social evils still prevalent in our society. She has given voice to child victims of abuse who are often told to suppress and forget their trauma because there families fear public shame. And also the pedophile is a powerful member of society so they fear no one will believe them.
Then she has also raised the issue of taking things at face value. Like here since the heroine is often seen as being snobbish, aloof, and quirky, she isn’t taken seriously by even the Police who after a while starts thinking that she is stalking herself!
Also we see the trauma caused by parents when they don’t believe their kids. Like when Alia’s mother doesn’t believe her when she tells her about her abuse. And instead sides with the perpetrator.
Also we see how mental illness defines a person as being unreliable, and even dangerous in society’s eyes. So, even if the victim is sane and stable but if they are in therapy, even the police easily falls in the mindset that this person can be dangerous, and prone to acts of violence. This is an unfortunate, and sad reality which needs to change.
Realistic, and relatable characters:
The expertly crafted and developed characters are a highlight of this book. They are all flawed people who we all will relate to. And they fluidly work as cogs in a well oiled machine to take this engrossing thriller forward.
Our heroine – Alia:
My heart cried for Alia as a kid facing abuse and no one believing her. And also for her as a self-made independent woman who still feels helpless because yet again no one is believing her. This is so true in real life too, and I applaud the author for bringing this dark and ugly reality of women to light in this book.
Then I felt like a proud mother as I watched this traumatized girl show such strength to become this independent business women, and stand up for herself.
"I wonder what it’s like to be loved like that, to have someone, anyone, put everything on the line for you."- #BookQuote @shilpaauthor 's All Kinds of Wrong #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #IARTG #NjkinnyRecommends Share on XAlia’s sister- Aria:
I adored Alia, and her sister, Aria who we first met in “The Right Kind of Wrong“. The love between the sisters, and their loyalty to each other had me going teary eyed. Aria supported her sister all through and I loved her for it.
Aria’s boyfriend- Karan:
Then I also enjoyed meeting Aria’s now boyfriend, Karan who we first met in “The Right Kind of Wrong“. His support, and easy affection for Alia had me falling in love with him even more. And I already loved him from the previous book!
Alia’s mother:
I didn’t like Alia’s mother who is unnecessarily dramatic, more concerned about her social standing, and who chose to ignore her child’s pain for the sake of her career. She is everything we don’t want in a mother. But sadly she is also someone most of us have either met or heard about in real life.
Our hero- Avinash:
Last but most importantly, I loved Avinash. He is as normal as Alia seems quirky. They are so different from each other in everything right from their nature to their lifestyle. But they are both so compatible as lovers that I literally cried when they realized their feelings for each other!
Avinash is a protector at heart, and I thoroughly enjoyed following him as he went full bodyguard and protective over Alia. His emotional dilemma is so relatable and yet my romantic heart kept urging him to take a chance at love. So, when he did take a chance I cheered so loudly that I scared people around me (I was reading this book while in a bus). LOL
Memorable and heartfelt romance:
"You are weird…kooky. But you are also unique, special and incredible…I don’t want someone like you…But I still want you.Only you. I want you like an itch beneath my skin…”- #BookQuote @shilpaauthor 's All Kinds of Wrong… Share on XThere are no explicit sexual scenes in this book, and yet despite that the romance still manages to sizzle, captivate, and then leave us mesmerized. Then the emotional connect is a memorable part of this love story. I, as a reader was deeply moved, and affected by the protagonists’ challenges. And so, felt a part of their story throughout.
The inner struggle as these love birds try to fight their feelings had me on edge to know what they would do next!
"This is wrong. On every level. Us, this time, everything…It’s all completely and totally wrong. All kinds of wrong.”- #BookQuote @shilpaauthor 's All Kinds of Wrong #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #IARTG #NjkinnyRecommends Share on X "He was in love with that contradictory, annoying, brilliant, fascinating woman."- #BookQuote @shilpaauthor 's All Kinds of Wrong #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #IARTG #NjkinnyRecommends Share on XThe author has used such beautiful quotes, words, and emotional scenes to elevate the beauty of their love story that I sat impressed, and totally in love all through the book.
I cried happy tears when this scene came!
"Let me stay in the sun, Alia. Please be a part of my life, because without my sun, I fear I’ll be lost in the permanent night of my life."- #BookQuote @shilpaauthor 's All Kinds of Wrong #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #IARTG… Share on XA memorable happy ending that left me sniffling and smiling wide through my tears:
"It’s always been you for me, Dems,” "I was a fool to think I could live any other way…Turns out, I don’t want to be free. Not now. Not ever.”- #BookQuote @shilpaauthor 's All Kinds of Wrong #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog #IARTG… Share on XSo many fun moments that had me giggling, and loving the witty banter:
This book is a complete package that not only gave me intense, spine tingling suspenseful moments, and heartfelt romance but also gave me so many laughter filled moments. I loved the banter among the characters, especially between Alia and Avinash. They are so cute when they bicker, call each other names, and act like enemies but are so in love with each other that it had my romantic heart sighing in delight.
"He stayed silent as she gave way to every possible vehicle to overtake…But he couldn’t stay silent when… For God’s sake, there are cyclists overtaking us.”- #BookQuote @shilpaauthor 's All Kinds of Wrong #BookReview on #NjkinnysBlog… Share on XThings that could be better:
The only thing that I can think of here is that I wanted to see a showdown between Alia and her mother. I wanted to see her mother repent for the trauma she had put her daughter through. Then I also wanted to see more of Alia and Avinash. But maybe, we will meet them again in Shilpa Suraj’s future books. And I am so hoping this happens!
