Essence of the Fifth Veda attracted me because I have always been interested in knowing more about ancient Indian history including the various lore and legends. Plus, I was also looking for books with ordinal numbers in the title for A to Z Book Challenge. So, I had high hopes from this book and I am so happy to tell you that it live upto every expectation and then some!
A simply written book that both novice as well as veteran readers will enjoy. This book will interest you right from the first page.
I got to know so many new things from this book as well live through the well-known epics of Ramayan and Mahabharat in a new light. Who knew that the Mahabharat was a world war? Or that Dasharatha was named Remi But became Dasharatha because on his wish his ratha (chariot) could go in all dasha (10) directions, including up and down!
I was floored with the amount of research the author has done and the engaging way he brings these Hindu legends to life. Also, he gives a reference to the sources used for each fact he states in this book which is an added bonus. So, I happily followed the sources to read more on several sections that intrigued me.
Then with the addition of maps, and present day locations shared for events that happened so long ago, everything feels all the more real and relatable.
Conclusion:
So, this is a book that needs to be savoured and appreciated not only for the diligent research and splendid narration but also because it brings our history closer to us. I felt a sense of pride, and awe in everything we had already accomplished so long ago while I read this book. And then felt the determination to again recapture that magnificence for our future.
All in all, Essence of the Fifth Veda by Gaurang Damani is a book that everyone should read. Read it to get a better understanding of Indian history, ourselves, and get the motivation to be better and do better for our future generations. So, a splendid gift for loved ones, this book is must read. And Njkinny recommends it to everyone, especially people interested in ancient Indian history including the Vedas and Puranas.
