Author Interview Adite Banerjie:
sentence, what is your book “The Indian Tycoon’s Marriage Deal” about?
who wants revenge against the man who destroyed her family but then she falls
in love with her enemy’s son—how will she reconcile her love with her desire
for justice? Oops…that’s one VERY long sentence! 🙂
it come out? Who is the Publisher? Any notable awards or praise for it?
released by Harlequin India in September 2013. Honestly speaking, I’m blown
away by the fact that people actually bought my book, read it and got back to
say that they liked it. I just hope it’s not just a case of beginner’s luck.
Fingers crossed!
inspired you to write this book?
the Harlequin Aspiring Authors contest in 2012 for which I needed to submit a
2000 word short story. Since revenge is a popular theme in M&B stories, I
decided to pick that theme for my entry.
you get your first break as an author?
the winners of the Harlequin Aspiring Authors contest. That led to the
opportunity of developing the short story into a full length novel.
been the biggest surprise or learning experience you’ve seen through the
process of seeing your book(s) get published?
romance is very very hard! Having been an avid M&B reader, I always felt
writing one would be a breeze. But when I got down to it, I found out just how
wrong I was. Thankfully, I had a wonderful editor to guide me through the
process. And did I mention how hard it is to actually write a romance? 🙂
about a fun moment or proud experience you’ve had with your book and readers
since the book got published.
a bunch of lovely emails from readers that I shall always cherish. But I think
the most fun letter was the one where a reader told me why she prefers reading
a Western M&B to an Indian romance…because it’s not too close to home and
while you can still get the romance part of it, you don’t need to worry about
the nitty-gritty. That’s not to say she didn’t enjoy my book. But it was a
great insight, namely, romance readers want their escapist fix!
you doing to reach out to readers and book enthusiasts?
with readers and book lovers has become quite easy, thanks to Facebook, Twitter
and other social media sites. I also connect with book bloggers and reviewers
who have been extremely supportive and have helped in spreading the word about
my book. And this is my cue to say a huge thanks to you for hosting me on your
blog and for your lovely review!
the one thing that you hope readers take away after reading your book?
one message in my book, that would be: we can choose to be better or to be
bitter; we all make our own destiny.
were to tell you one thing before you started writing, what do you wish it had
been?
process of writing a manuscript to seeing your book in the stores is a very long journey and you need to have
the patience of a saint! 😀
your overall impression of the writing industry? Any advice you would like to
give to the aspiring authors?
an extremely competitive business. If you want to get your book published, you
have to take the time out to study the craft of storytelling and hone your writing
skills so that your manuscript is the best it can be.
