Book Review:
Holly Winterlake loves Christmas and skating while Noelle Summerford wants to be as far away as possible when it is the Christmas season and could not be more disastrous on ice than he already is!
Forced to take his Godson skating, Noelle crosses path with Holly and amidst the Christmas cheer and some skating disasters starts their love story!
Skating at Somerset House is a delightful short story that brings back the happy holiday season with lots of eggnog, cheer and laughter. Set in the English country,it was a very entertaining read which held me captive until the very end. I could feel the thrill of skating on real ice, feeling the cold but still assured of a hot cup of coffee not being far away, the joy of watching people enjoying the festive season with their family and friends and the hope of finding your true love during the lovely Christmas holidays!
The cover is colorful and I was intrigued by the blurb. Both these create a good first impression, making you want to pick the book up to read!
This is the first book by Nikki Moore that I have read and I loved her simple, engaging and lively writing style. Without ever having visited London, she brought London alive through her story and made me feel like I was experiencing everything myself. I felt eager to join in the celebrations, pick up my warmest jacket and skates and go skate at the Somerset House. The history of the place also enchanted me and made me want to visit it someday.
The characterization is expertly done and I connected with the Holly, Noelle and little Jasper. Jasper is just so cute. The relationship between Holly and Noelle develops beautifully and I could feel the love in the air with lots of humour thrown in.
All in all, Skating at Somerset House is a story that has romance, holiday cheer and humour all rolled together in 40 odd pages and is an entertaining short read that can be read anytime and anywhere. 4 out of 5 to it and recommended to everyone.
I received the book from NetGalley and the publishers and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
