He is the mysterious underground fighter who stormed into her sleepy Texan college town on his motorcycle one day, and has been wreaking havoc since.

And when you play with fire—you ought to get burned.
Playing with Fire by L J Shen Review:
Playing with Fire by L J Shen Book Summary:
Grace’s life lost all sparkle when she lost her beauty in an accident. Gone was the popular cheerleader with the most-sought after boyfriend, and in its place only the vulnerable, forgotten, and mocked-at girl remained who hid in the shadows and under layers of makeup to hide her scars.
Fire symbolized beauty, fury, and rebirth, she explained. Too bad in my case, it symbolized nothing but my demise.”
Playing with Fire by L.J. Shen quotes
West is the popular boy in college. Handsome, dashing, and a guy who has his pick of women but inside he is broken. Reeling from a tragedy in his past, he constantly thinks of the futility of living and is kept sane only because of his best friend, East. While no one but East knows his secrets and sees his real self, Grace sees through to the lonely boy trying to hide his pain by being brash and cocky.
As I watched him there, I didn’t see the most popular guy in college. The sex god. The illegal fighter. I saw the loneliest boy I’d ever laid eyes on. Sweet, confused, and lost.”

Playing with Fire by L J Shen Review:
Playing with Fire by L.J. Shen took me on a brutally raw ride full of life’s tragedies and injustices. However, while it broke my heart, had me shedding buckets of tears, and feeling a plethora of emotions, it also left me feeling strong, determined and inspired to never stop fighting the challenges that life throws at me.
The blurb is intriguing and had me eagerly grabbing my copy as soon as the book went live!
Whatever your journey is, be certain you have someone to lean on when things get tough. Because they always do. Someone who is not your grandmother. Someone chosen, not a built-in family member. Someone who’d walk through fire for you.”

Narration:
I have no words to describe the magnificence of this story. Without going into details, all I will say that it is one of the best reads of 2020 that I have read and in some ways, one of the best books ever that I have had the pleasure of reading.
L.J. Shen’s writing is simple, engaging and so vivid that I easily pictured everything in my mind. Her narration had me enchanted as I followed Grace and West to their re-awakening. There happily-ever-after made my day and left me feeling the magic of true love that isn’t affected by exterior beauty but the beauty of the heart and soul.
Listen to me carefully, Grace Shaw. You’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen in my entire life. When I look at you, I see a fighter. I see resilience and strength and defiance that no one can touch. You take my breath away, and no one- nothing- will change that.”

Conclusion:
All in all, Playing with Fire by L J Shen is a must-read romance that will suck you in right from the start and then leave you wanting more. I want to read East’s story and more about Grace and West.
So, a beautiful story that will always stay close to my heart, I absolutely adored this book and heartily add it to Njkinny’s List of the Best Books of 2020.
Hence, this is a heartfelt love story that has layers on layers of emotional play, that kept me at the edge-of-my-seat throughout and then left me feeling happy yet unsettled as I questioned myself if I would have been as strong as Grace and West if something like happened to me. So, now, I am determined to be better and stronger like Grace with people around me who would walk through fire for me, if the time ever came for that.
So, this is a not-to-be-missed college romance that is raw, enchanting, and emotionally rich with an inspiring and memorable love story. So, I give this engrossing romance novel, 5 out of 5 super shiny stars and Njkinny recommends it to all romance lovers above the age of eighteen.
I’ll walk through fire for you. Love you. – Your old flame.”
