Bewitched by Ruchi Singh Book Summary:
Ruthless, revered as well as feared billionaire, Rudra falls under the spell of Poorva as she, as Menaka, seduces Sage Vishwamitra on stage. Actress in an Indian mythological play, Poorva also feels the instant connection with the enigmatic man who just keeps staring at her all through her performance. While Poorva is bound by responsibilities and not interested in exploring the attraction, Rudra always takes what he wants and he wants her. A battle of wills, personalities, beliefs and hearts make for an emotional, entertaining and memorable love story that had me rooting and cheering for these two very different people who have nothing in common except the pull they feel towards each other.
Bewitched by Ruchi Singh Book Review:
Bewitched by Ruchi Singh is the new romance novel that incorporates the timeless Indian mythological fable of Menaka and Vishwamitra with a parallel story running in the present time to give the readers a unique, exciting, and entertaining love story full of bewitching moments that will leave you wanting more!
Things I Loved:
This is the first book that I have read where an author has experimented with a mythological tale and used it as a theme for a contemporary romance. I absolutely enjoyed revisiting the evergreen, immortal yet heartbreaking tale of love between the heaven nymph, Menaka and an earthly sage, Vishwamitra. Both the Hindu mythological tale and the contemporary romance run parallel and had me intrigued and glued to my seat throughout.
Characterisation:
Both Poorva and Rudra are strong characters and it was thrilling reading their interactions. I didn’t like the hero in the beginning. He was self-centered, ruthlessly focused on his own interests and a user. The way he went after Poorva had my hackles rising but then the author so admirably turned the tables on me when she peeled off this outer layer to show the real man inside. A man ,who despite not believing in love, keeps a broken anklet bell in his pocket and secretly sends guards to protect the woman he can’t stop thinking about! This showcases Ruchi Singh’s writing prowess that she shapes and molds the readers’ perceptions of the events and characters as she wishes in this book.
Same goes for Poorva who came across as meek, repressed under her beliefs and good-girl upbringing but then she shows the other side to her character where she goes from being the prey to the hunter. The way she fought her battles and won had me cheering for her. I felt so proud that she didn’t wait for anyone to save her and truly showcased the power of a woman who can do anything.
Storytelling:
The narration is fluid and the language simple. But the only thing that I felt was missing was a glossary of the non-English terms. A glossary would indeed help the English speaking readers who are not aware of the meaning of these terms. There are also a few minor grammatical errors that can be rectified with another round of editing.
Also this book is the prime example of “opposite attracts” and I thoroughly enjoyed the romance between the protagonists. Then the secondary budding romance between Nayak and Mansi also had me smiling. And revisiting Vikram from “The Bodyguard” was icing on the cake. So, the underdogs win in this book and if you root for them then you are in for a treat!
I have been a big fan of Ruchi Singh’s writing and absolutely loved her books like “Jugnu“, “The Bodyguard“, “Guardian Angel“, “Take 2“. With this book she has gone a step further and made me fall for her writing even more. So, a not-to-be missed author, go checkout her books and read them now!
Conclusion:
All in all, Bewitched by Ruchi Singh bewitched me, sucked me in right from the start. It took me on an emotionally rich journey of self-discovery, fighting against injustice, listening to your heart, and sacrificing in the name of love. So, this is a book with all the feels, a total entertainer and a definite entry into “Njkinny’s List of the Best Books of 2020“. I give it 4.5 out of 5 super shiny stars. And Njkinny recommends this amazing romance to all people looking for a feel-good, inspiring, and engrossing love story!
