Blurb:

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Verity and It Ends With Us delivers another breathtaking novel with a magnetic suspense that will keep you glued to the pages.

Life and a dismal last name are the only two things Beyah’s parents ever gave her. Forced to carve her own path alone, Beyah is well on her way to bigger and better things, thanks to no one but herself.

With only two short months separating her from the future she’s built for herself and the past she desperately wants to leave behind, an unexpected death leaves Beyah with no place to go during the interim.
Forced to call her last resort, Beyah has no other option than to spend the remainder of her summer on a peninsula in Texas with a father she barely knows.

Beyah’s plan is to keep her head down and let the summer slip by seamlessly, but her new neighbor Samson throws a wrench in that plan.
Samson and Beyah have nothing in common on the surface. She comes from a life of poverty and neglect; he comes from a family of wealth and privilege.

But one thing they do have in common is that they’re both drawn to sad things.
Which means they’re drawn to each other.
With an almost immediate connection too intense for them to continue denying, Beyah and Samson agree to stay in the shallow end of a summer fling. What Beyah doesn’t realize is that a rip current is coming, and it’s about to drag her heart out to sea.

Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover Book Summary:

Here she meets Samson, an enigmatic and secretive boy who is so similar to her and yet so different. Drawn towards him, her life changes when an unforeseen event leaves Beyah and Samson fighting for their future.

Home still feels like a mythical place I’ve been searching for my whole life.”

Things I Liked:

Just like all Colleen Hoover books, this one is yet another memorable read that left me happy and yet, craving more. The brutal real life picture that she portrays left me cringing, feeling heartbroken and then proud of the protagonists.

The stark honesty of the reality of the lives of poor kids who are often not only neglected by their parents but also fall through the cracks in the system had me itching to make everything right. But as the author points out, it needs the attention of the right authorities and an update in the system to make it possible. Unfortunate and helpless children who have no one to look after their benefits often make mistakes that leads to them paying for it their whole lives.

The beautiful balance between raising social issues and narrating a story that resonates with readers is a skill that Colleen Hoover has mastered. I have read all her books and as yet not found a book that I haven’t loved!

I wonder what kind of upbringing is worse for a human. The kind where you’re sheltered and loved to the point that you aren’t aware of how cruel the world can be until it’s too late to acquire the necessary coping skills or the kind of household I grew up in. The ugliest version of a family, where coping is the only thing you learn.”

Characterisation:

The connection between Beyah and Samson had my eyes tearing up and my heart soaring with happiness. While I was thrilled with the ending, I hope we get further updates on Beyah and Samson in future books because I am dying to know what happens next!

Damaged people recognize other damaged people. It’s like a club you don’t want a membership to.”

Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover Quotes

Not only the main characters but the secondary characters also stole my heart. All through, I felt like I was reading about people I knew and cared about.

Add the superbly crafted story line with an intense suspense that had me sitting entranced throughout, I could not put down this book until the end. As a result, after starting the book in the evening I sat reading non-stop until the early hours of the night.

Conclusion:

All in all, Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover is another stellar romance full of quotes worth quoting and remembering, characters that had me falling in love with them, a story that imprinted on my heart, and sub-characters that left me intrigued and eager to know more about them. This is one of the best books of 2020 that I have read and definitely best Colleen Hoover 2020 release. 5 out of 5 super shiny stars to it.

Don’t worry. Hearts don’t have bones. They can’t actually break.”

If there’s nothing inside a heart that can break, why does it feel like mine is going to snap in half when it’s time for me to move next month? Does your heart not feel like that?” Samson’s eyes scroll over my face for a moment.

Yeah…It does. Maybe we both grew heart bones.”

Love is a lot like water.
It can be calm. Raging. Threatening. Soothing.
Water will be many things, but even in all its forms, it will always be water.
You are my water.
I think I might be yours, too.”
