Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh Book Review:
[Updated 2023] I absolutely love love love this book and this series! I first read this book in 2012 and since have read and reread this gorgeous romance so many times that I have lost count. Everything from the characters, world building, narration, emotions, romance, mystery, and quotes are memorable. So, there is absolutely no reason why you should not read this book!
I had been hearing so much about Nalini Singh since years and then I picked up “Rock Courtship” by her which released just a few months ago and wow, I loved her writing style.
So, having enjoyed that book, I bought several of her books, including this one.
Book Blurb and Cover:
Slave to Sensation is the first book in the bestselling, “Psy-Changeling series” by Nalini Singh and when I saw it for the first time, I instantly loved the blurb which made me remember, Lora Leigh’s “The Breeds series”. However, Slave to Sensation is a different book and a new story but written just as brilliantly and plotted just as expertly as “The Breeds series”.
I saw several covers for this book and they all are beautiful but we get the real taste of the story only when we start reading it.
Splendid and immersive World Building:
Engaged right from the first page, I was impressed by the detailed world building, the thoroughly planned racial characteristics of Psy and Changelings and the conflicts between them that nowhere looked unbelievable. I was able to visualize a world where Psy and Changelings live among the humans without us being aware of their existence!

Narration:
The writing is simple, fluid and captivating. I was easily sucked in the story and stayed engaged throughout. The suspense, mystery, new fantasy world, relatable characters, and the emotional and sizzling romance is so beautifully brought to life by Nalini’s narration.
Characterisation:
I was caught in the dilemmas, hurt and fear faced by our heroine. Sascha Duncan has always been alone, unloved by her own mother and fearing her emotions which can lead her to be terminated. Amidst all this heart squeezing unhappiness and yearning, in comes our hero. And I was floored by his intensity while also being impressed by his protectiveness towards his own people. And being the hopeless romantic that I am, I wanted my heroine to have a happily-ever-after with him.
This quote had me going teary eyed and fiercely wishing Sascha got her happiness.
''I wish you'd love me.' 'Why?' 'Because then maybe you could protect me, too.' Haunting sorrow whispered through her tone.' She didn’t try to tell him that he wasn’t God, that he couldn’t protect everyone. He knew that. But knowing and believing were two different things. What she did say succeeded in stopping his heart.
I wish you’d love me.”
Why?”
Because then maybe you could protect me, too.” Haunting sorrow whispered through her tone.”

Lucas’ protectiveness towards Sascha even when it meant going against his people left me totally in love with him.

Read Slave to Sensation by @nalinisingh #BookReview #BookQUotes on #NjkinnysBlog… Share on XFor one instant, their minds were one and he saw how desperately, how wildly, how unreasonably she loved him—enough to break a promise, to choose death so he could live. She saw how much her panther adored her, how his heart beat for her alone, how life would turn into death after she was gone. The beast was angry at her for attempting to deny him his mate, and the man was beyond angry, but beneath the anger was hunger, need, love. Such intense, furious love that it had no beginning and no end.”

Apart from the protagonists, the supporting characters are also endearing people and both the positive and the negative characters impressed me.
Conclusion:
Now after reading this book, I cant wait to read the next books in the series with the hope of getting to read more about these supporting characters, maybe read their own story.
